A big warm welcome to you! Whether you’ve been supporting Dad Man Trading for a while, or you’ve just stumbled across this little corner of the internet for the first time – thank you for being here. I’m Dad Man, and I wanted to take a moment to properly introduce myself and share a bit of the story behind what I do.

The Snowball Effect

I’ve always believed in what I call the Snowball Effect. The idea is simple: when you do something kind or positive for someone, it can ripple outward and inspire them to do the same for others. One small good deed can gather momentum and turn into something bigger.

That belief has guided me for as long as I can remember. I’ll admit, I haven’t always got it right. Sometimes I’ve gone too big, too hard, and fallen short. But even those “failures” shaped my journey to where I am today.

A Turning Point

A few years back, while playing a local sport I’d helped set up in the community, I injured my neck. The result was permanent nerve damage that leaves me with pins and needles in my arm and leg, 24/7. Tasks many take for granted – tying shoelaces, holding cutlery, or even gripping objects – became a daily struggle.

The injury didn’t just change me physically; it hit me mentally too. I’ve always been someone who loves giving back, and suddenly I found myself asking: how can I do that now?

Discovering 3D Printing

The answer came from a surprising place: 3D printing.

It started simply – finding a design online that looked interesting, loading some filament, pressing “print,” and then sitting back to watch as something amazing came to life layer by layer. That feeling of seeing an idea transformed into a real, tangible object was magical. Even better, my family loved it too.

Pretty quickly, I found myself not just printing cool designs, but actively hunting for the best and most unique ones. Sure, there are plenty of standard files out there – but every now and then, you discover that one design that sparks curiosity, inspires imagination, or makes someone smile. That hunt, that excitement, is part of what keeps me hooked.

And so, Dad Man Trading was born.

Why PLA Filament?

You might be wondering: what are these prints actually made of?

Most of what I create is printed with PLA filament, short for Polylactic Acid. It’s one of the most popular 3D printing materials – and for good reason:

  • 🌱 Eco-Friendly Origins – PLA is made from renewable resources like corn starch and sugarcane, not petroleum.
  • 🌍 Better for the Planet – It’s biodegradable under industrial conditions, making it one of the greener choices in the 3D printing world.
  • 🎨 Beautiful Finishes – PLA prints with vibrant colours and smooth detail, perfect for toys, decorative items, and creative designs.
  • 🔥 Easy & Efficient – It requires less heat to print, meaning lower energy use and fewer printing headaches.
  • 👃 Low Odour – Unlike other plastics, it doesn’t give off harsh fumes while printing.

In short, it’s strong enough for play, kind enough for the planet, and versatile enough for imagination.

The Mission Behind Dad Man Trading

At its heart, Dad Man Trading is about more than just toys or prints. It’s about creating affordable, fun, and imaginative items – things that encourage play, support sensory needs, or simply make someone’s day better.

And every sale goes right back into community-focused initiatives. In the past, that’s included:

  • Running a free Community Grinch event
  • Donating gift cards to families in need
  • Providing food and clothing hampers
  • Adopting families for special holidays

It’s about using this hobby to spread joy – in big ways and small.
